Optometry Student Teaching Clinic
At Collins Street Optometrists we believe in doing our bit to help develop the next generation of optometrists. So we're involved in the teaching of final year optometry students in Australia and New Zealand by providing valuable real life experience through clinical placements.
From 2020 you can choose to be examined by these final year optometry students; some of these students are in their seventh year of training. In 2020 we will be hosting students between March and October.
Appointments with final year optometry students are typically of about 60 minutes' duration, the first 40 minutes being conducted solely by the student and the remaining time with the supervising optometrist who is in charge of the teaching clinic for that day. The supervising optometrist will review and discuss the results of your examination as well as your management plan. They will also be fully responsible for you as their patient.
We do our best to run the teaching clinic on time, but ask for your understanding if we happen to run a little late on the day.
The part of the consultation provided by the supervising optometrist is bulk-billed to Medicare. For your visit there is a reduced fee of $40 that covers all scans and imaging necessary for your care. If scans are required at subsequent visits a maximum fee of $20 applies.
